An Open Assembly for Greater Dialogue and Joint Action The Arctic Circle is a nonprofit organization and an open forum designed to facilitate dialogue and build relationships to confront the Arctic's greatest challenges. Participants include political and business leaders, environmental experts, representatives of indigenous groups, policy and thought leaders, scientists, and others who have a stake and an interest in the region. The importance of the Arctic, however, is even greater than that. After all, the Northern Hemisphere is home to 75 percent of the world's population and 92 percent of global GDP. With the melting of sea ice comes the opening of shipping lanes, areas for oil and gas exploration, and other economic activity, along with a whole host of international policy challenges—from the environment to indigenous populations to national security. All of this is having a profound impact that extends far beyond the North Pole. Because of these rapid changes, the future is now. It's essential that we get it right. We invite you to contact us to participate in this important conversation, as well as attend our sixth annual assembly, which will be held October 19 – 21, 2017, in Reykjavík, Iceland.
